What is Oats Omelette

For some reason, I haven’t seen too many recipes for the Oats Omelette in English. But it is a very popular healthy breakfast dish in Russian-speaking countries.

It takes just a few simple ingredients to make, and only requires 4-5 minutes of your time. And for the equipment, all you need is a frying pan. Can’t get easier than that!

For the filling, you can literally use anything you have in the fridge. Sweet or savory – you pick. I will leave my favorite combinations below, in case you need some inspiration.

Omelette Filling Ideas

As you can imagine, the sky is the limit when it comes to omelette filling ideas. However, I suggest we focus on healthy and nutritious fillings today.

Let’s start with some healthy and fun savory fillings first:
  • Scrambled Egg+Cheese+Tomatoes
  • Avocado+Seasonings+Cucumber
  • Cream Cheese+Smoked Salmon+Balsamic Glaze
  • Hummus+Pickled Onions+Feta Cheese

Here’s a recipe for delicious pickled onions from Lena’s Kitchen. They’re also great on top of salads or breakfast toast.

  • Ham+Cheese+Greens
  • Ricotta Cheese+Bacon+Spinach
  • Sautéed Mushrooms and Onions+Shredded Cheese

I hope you like at least one of these savory fillings. If not, come up with your own, and don’t forget to share your ideas in the comments below.

What about some sweet fillings:
  • Cottage Cheese+Toasted Walnuts+Honey
  • Nut Butter+Banana+Chia Seeds

When it comes to nut butters, make sure to pick the ones that only have nuts and salt (or just the nuts) in the ingredients list. I recommend this peanut butter or this almond butter. Or use a healthy chocolate hazelnut spread, such as this one, instead.

  • Farmer’s Cheese+Sweetener+Strawberries

You can pick any sweetener you like. I usually use honey, date syrup, or monkfruit zero-calorie sweetener.

  • Greek Yogurt+Cooked Apples+Cinnamon+Maple Syrup
  • Whipped Cream Cheese+Chia Jam

Chia jam is such a great healthy alternative to a traditional fruit jam. Feel free to check my Instagram blog for an easy chia jam recipe.

  • Yogurt-and-Fruit Salad
  • Ricotta Cheese+Kiwis+Granola

I have a strong feeling, kids would love one of these sweet versions of an Oats Omelette.

Tips on making an Oats Omelette

  • Smooth pancake-like consistency – blend all ingredients in a blender before cooking.
  • For the omelette to cook through evenly– keep the temperature on medium-low, or cover the pan with a lid.
  • To add more flavor – add vanilla, cinnamon, or herbs.
  • No oil needed – use a non-stick pan.
  • To double the recipe – simply use a bigger frying pan.
  • Right consistency – if using an extra large egg, add more oats.
