Oven Baked Zucchini Fries
If you’ve never tried baked zucchini fries, you’re missing out, my friend. These fries are so crispy and so flavorful, while adding great nutrients to your meal.
Did you know, that zucchinis are high in antioxidants, low in calories, and contain a great amount of vitamin A?
This recipe is super easy and doesn’t need a whole blog post of instructions. But let me give you a few tips on making the best tasting baked zucchini fries.
Flavor
To add more flavor to your zucchini fries, try using seasoned bread crumbs or season them yourself. For this recipe, I am using these Italian style seasoned bread crumbs.
You could also add parmesan cheese to your bread crumbs to add even more flavor.
Using Almond Flour for Healthy and Gluten-Free Zucchini Fries
Instead of using traditional bread crumbs, try almond flour mixed with your favorite spices, for a healthier alternative. This would also make this recipe gluten-free.
Extra Crispy Zucchini Fries
These fries turn out pretty crispy by being baked at a high temperature. To make them even crispier, drizzle your zucchini fries with a little bit of olive oil before putting in the oven.
Kid-Friendly Side or Appetizer
Oven baked zucchini fries are such a great side dish or appetizer. They are kid-friendly and perfect for picky eaters.
What to serve Zucchini Fries with
If making these fries for kids, try serving with one of these:
- seasoned greek yogurt
- homemade fish sticks (recipe)
- broccoli with cheese sauce
- roasted baby carrots
- cucumber and avocado salad
- tuna salad (recipe)
- hummus
Or try one of these for the whole family:
- baked salmon (recipe)
- grilled shrimp
- healthy salad
- rotisserie chicken
- avocado mash
- fried eggs
- pizza
Best Dipping Sauce (Healthy)
Growing up, we’d usually eat our home grown zucchini in a from of zucchini fritters (recipe on my Instagram blog), and serve them with salted sour cream and fresh herbs. And to me, that is just the best combo ever!
But I decided to get a little more creative this time and make a healthy and delicious sauce to go with these zucchini fries, or any zucchini dish, really.
So here’s how you make it:
- In a small mixing bowl, combine 1/4 cup greek yogurt, 1 tsp good quality ketchup (I like this one), and a little bit of garlic (or onion) salt to taste.
- Optional: mix in some sriracha mayo to spice up the sauce.
- Top with some fresh or frozen herbs (I’m using frozen dill) and enjoy!
I told you, it’s a super simple sauce. But trust me, it is very delicious and goes so well with the fries.
Tips for success
- Make sure zucchini is dry – wet zucchini will get you soggy fries. Make sure to dry them with paper towel before coating in flour.
- Use enough spices – zucchini on its own is not very flavorful, so it’s important to use enough salt and spices.
- Parchment paper – lining your baking dish with parchment paper will result in the crispiest fries. I don’t recommend using silicone mats.
- Leave space between fries when on the baking sheet – if fries overlap, they won’t come out as crispy out of the oven.
- Don’t forget to flip – flipping your fries about halfway through the baking time will insure they cook evenly on all sides.
- Serve immediately – zucchini fries soften very quickly once out of the oven, so enjoy them right away.
